LDPE covers cut to the size of the thing they cover
A cover that is too big flaps in the wind and lets water in at the bottom. Too small and it does not reach. Covers are the one product where made-to-measure costs the same as generic, so there is no reason to buy generic.
50 to 200 micron. Indoor dust covers 50 to 80, pallet covers 60 to 100, outdoor machine covers 150 to 200

How to measure for a top cover: length and width of the pallet or machine footprint, plus the height, plus 100 to 150 mm of skirt below the bottom edge so wind cannot lift it. Send those three numbers and the skirt is our problem, not yours.
Three jobs, three specs
Machine covers
Idle machines, spare motors, generators and gym or salon equipment. Indoor dust cover: 50 to 80 micron. Outdoor: 150 to 200 micron with UV grade, or the cover turns to confetti in a season.
Pallet covers
A gusseted top cover dropped over a stretch-wrapped pallet before it goes in a container or a monsoon yard. 60 to 100 micron. Cheaper and faster than another two rounds of stretch film.
Mulch film
Laid over the bed to hold moisture and suppress weeds. 25 to 50 micron, usually black, or silver-on-black to reflect heat and confuse pests. Agriculture page →
Sunlight is the only thing that kills a cover
Covers do not usually fail from abrasion or load. They fail because ultraviolet light breaks the polymer down: the film goes chalky, then brittle, then it tears at every fold. Once that starts you cannot repair it.
What that means in practice:
Indoors, gauge is all you need. An 80 micron cover in a warehouse will last for years because nothing is attacking it.
Outdoors, UV grade is not optional. Non-UV film in Indian sun starts degrading in four to six months. A 24-month UV package costs a little more per kilo and multiplies the life of the cover.
Light colour helps twice. White or silver reflects heat, which keeps the covered equipment cooler and slows the degradation of the film itself.
We ask one question before quoting outdoor covers: how many months does it need to survive? Then we quote the UV package for that, rather than the cheapest film that technically fits.
Send three dimensions (length, width, height) and whether the cover stays indoors or outdoors. Outdoor means UV grade. We will spec micron and quote in one working day.
